Jonbon (Walk In The Park) Lands The Grade 2 Supreme Trial Novices Hurdle At Haydock

Jonbon Adds Second Grade 2 To Unbeaten Record

Saturday saw Jonbon (6g Walk In The Park - Star Face, by Saint Des Saints) remain unbeaten with back-to-back Grade 2 wins in the Supreme Trial Novices’ Hurdle at Haydock.

The highly-regarded bay was sent off favourite under Aidan Coleman, who produced Nicky Henderson’s charge with a challenge two from home. Ridden to lead after the final flight, he was pushed out to win by three lengths, as Richmond Lake (Westerner) and Might I (Fame And Glory) completed a 1-2-3 for Coolmore NH sires.

Speaking after the race, Aidan Coleman said, “I was very happy with the performance. He's such a pleasure to ride.”

Henderson echoed his sentiments, saying, “I thought that was good. It was a different test today, a speed track, very soft ground. They quickened once in the straight and you thought 'he's got something to do here' but he got there nicely. Then he quickened again and I like horses that can quicken twice.”

Now five from five, Jonbon recorded his first win with an impressive performance at Dromahane for Ellmarie Holden, before selling to JP McManus for £570,000. Bred by Lotfi Kohli, the son of Walk In The Park was born with great expectations as a full-brother to the top-class Douvan (Walk In The Park).
