Juvenile Stakes-Winner for Tale of the Cat
Evergreen sire Tale of the Cat added a new juvenile stakes-winner to his tally when Cleon Jones (2c Tale of the Cat x Whispering, by Quiet American) captured the $145,800 Bertram F Bongard Stakes at Belmont on Friday.
Prepared by Jeremiah C. Englehart, Cleon Jones won his maiden at Saratoga at his second start in July and was second at his most recent outing in a stakes race.
He improved again for this assignment, scoring a tenacious head win in the seven furlong contest and has now won two of four starts earning over $167,000 in prizemoney.
A $325,000 OBS March 2YO purchase, Cleon Jones is the second winner from Whispering, a grand-daughter of French Group II winner Martessa.
Cleon Jones is the 108th stakes-winner for outstanding sire Tale of the Cat.
