Kyprios Concludes Perfect Season In Long Distance Cup
Kyprios (6h Galileo – Polished Gem, by Danehill) made it seven from seven this season with another commanding victory in the Group 2 Long Distance Cup on British Champions Day.
Aidan O’Brien’s charge was sent off favourite under Ryan Moore and took close order behind stablemate The Euphrates from an early stage. Quickening as they turned for home, he led before the two furlong pole and was ridden to assert a furlong later. The son of Galileo stayed on strongly to score by two and a quarter lengths.
“Kyprios didn't really have much of a race today,” O’Brien commented. “He only cantered around but it was the same after his last run in France. He's a very special horse and something we've never seen before. He's relentless and has an unbelievable amount of quality.”
On what’s next for the star stayer, the trainer said, “We'll give him the winter off now and then he'll have his two trials [next year] before coming back here for the Gold Cup. That's what we're working towards.”
Of any Ballydoyle inmates past and present, Kyprios has won the most Group 1’s for Aidan O’Brien. He is owned by breeder Moyglare Stud Farm with Coolmore partners and Westerberg.
