Leitir takes Leopardstown G3 for Holy Roman Emperor
The admirable Leitir Mor (3c Holy Roman Emperor-Christinas Letter, by Galileo) starred in the G3 Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown on Thursday evening when bringing more big-race glory for Holy Roman Emperor.
The three-year-old, bred by his trainer Jim Bolger, was having his 16th start when beating Lily’s Angel in the seven-furlong contest under Kevin Manning and added to a CV that includes G1 placings behind stablemate Dawn Approach in last season’s Dewhurst Stakes and National Stakes.
Leitir Mor will back a quick comeback at Royal Ascot on Tuesday when he lines up in the G1 St James’s Palace Stakes on Tuesday.
“I asked Kevin to give him a blowout for Tuesday!” said Bolger. “Seven furlongs or a mile is his trip. I hope he gets a mile on Tuesday. Ronan Whelan will ride him. He was 117-rated last year and I thought if he came back to his Dewhurst form he would win this evening.”
