Lookin At Lucky Gelding Wins Second Graded Stakes
Lookin At Lucky’s Lucky Score (5g Lookin At Lucky x Miss Matzo, by Royal Academy) added a second graded stakes win to his record on Saturday with a victory in the Grade II Highlander Stakes at Woodbine.
Making his second start of the year in the six-furlong turf race, the gelding encountered trouble at the gate and took up residence in last place early on. Jockeyed wide coming into the stretch by Sahin Civaci, he was put into a drive as the field raced down the stretch and slowly reeled in the leaders.
The front was well in sight in the final sixteenth and Lucky Score grabbed the lead and started to pull away for a half-length win at the line.
Now a two-time graded stakes winner, Lucky Score has won six of 15 starts with five other top three finishes for $430,079 in earnings.
Racing exclusively at Woodbine throughout his career, the Mark Casse trainee races for Pantofel Stable, Wachtel Stable, and Gary Barber and was bred by James and Janeane Everatt and Arika Everatt-Meeuse.
Lucky Score is a half-brother to stakes winner Miss Matzoball and out of a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Madame Giry.
Lucky Score is one of 17 Northern Hemisphere-foaled graded stakes winners for his sire, 19th best of all active North American sires. Lookin At Lucky is the sire of seven Northern Hemisphere-foaled stakes horses in 2023 alone.
