Lookin At Lucky’s Tall Boy Wins G3 UAE 2000 Guineas
Lookin At Lucky’s 3-year-old crop continued to impress on Friday when Tall Boy (3c Lookin At Lucky x Madame Mayra, by Scat Daddy) won the Grade III UAE 2000 Guineas.
Looking for his maiden victory in this spot, the Doug O’Neill trainee was among the top three runners early on in the one-mile dirt race with the rest of the horses racing a few lengths behind them. Tall Boy let Shirl’s Bee control the pace down the backstretch but raced up to look him in the eye as they raced around the far turn and the battle was truly on.
Neither horse wanted to give in with Shirl’s Bee holding the advantage until they hit the final furlong. It was at that point that the longtime leader gave in and Tall Boy took over to cruise to a three-quarter length win with everyone outside the top three over nine lengths behind the winner.
Bred by Rockingham Ranch, Tall Boy races for Calumet Farm with that operation buying him as a weanling.
The colt is one of two winners from three to race out of the Scat Daddy mare Madame Mayra, who is a half-sister to five winners from seven to race. This is the extended family of champions Afleet Alex, Vale Mantovani and Duca Di Mantova and Grade I winner Qualique.
Lookin At Lucky’s 3-year-old crop includes winners in five different countries with two stakes performers in addition to three who finished just off the board in stakes races.
