Gleneagles Standing

Maiden Success For Improving Son Of Gleneagles

A step up in trip saw Gallipoli (3g Gleneagles - Lockup, by Inchinor) get off the mark in the Prix Du Moulin De Varennes at Lyon on Wednesday.

Twice third over shorter distances, the Ludovic Gadbin-trained bay raced in midfield for much of the mile and seven furlong contest. Improving to chase the leaders approaching the turn for home, he ran on well in the straight and rallied to deny Aristocrate by a neck on the line.

Owned by Thierry Storme, Gallipoli was bred by Elevage de Tourgeville and Thierry Lohest. The first crop son of Gleneagles is a half-brother to Group 3 winner Loi and provides an important update for his yearling sister by Holy Roman Emperor.
