Main Edition Captures Second German Classic For Zoffany

Main Edition (3f Zoffany - Maine Lobster) dug deep to win Sunday’s German 1,000 Guineas at Dusseldorf and in turn became her sire’s second Classic winner in the country, following Knife Edge’s success in the 2016 running of the colts’ Classic at Cologne.

The Mark Johnston-trained winner was racing over a mile for the first time, having won the Group 3 Albany Stakes and Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes over seven furlongs last season. Joe Fanning rode her to track Axana for much of the way and produced a challenge two furlongs from home, but the longtime leader did not give up her advantage easily. Digging deep, Main Edition led in the final 50 yards and beat her determined rival by a neck.

The Saif Ali-owned filly may now return to the scene of her Albany victory to contest her entry in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes. Bred by Minch Bloodstock, the daughter of Zoffany is a half-sister to multiple Group winner Major Cadeaux and Listed victor Beachfire.
