Mastercraftsman Colt Bound For Bigger Things
The Andrew Slattery-trained Metier (3c Mastercraftsman - We’ll Go Walking, by Authorized) may be aimed at the Irish Cambridgeshire after running out an impressive winner at Gowran Park on Wednesday.
The Pat Garvey-owned colt has proven progressive since his sole juvenile start, when he finished fourth, and relished Wednesday’s ground, which was described as yielding to soft. Talented apprentice Andrew Slattery rode his father’s charge prominently, taking the lead after two furlongs and went two lengths clear with four furlongs left to race. Pushed along in the straight, the bay stayed on well to win by six lengths.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “He could end up a Cup horse next year, he's so raw and big, he's a fair horse. He might end up going for this year's Irish Cesarewitch. I think next year with a bit of luck he could be a very very good horse. We could be going for those nice staying races.”
Metier was bred by Knockainey Stud out of the multiple Stakes-placed We’ll Go Walking, herself out of a full-sister to the top-class juvenile Teofilo (Galileo).
