Morpho Blue (Mastercraftsman) Wins At Limerick

Mastercraftsman Filly Gains Back-To-Back Wins

Friday saw Morpho Blue (3f Mastercraftsman - Butterfly Blue, by Sadler’s Wells) follow up on her maiden victory when taking the Ballyduane Stud Fillies Race at Limerick.

A two and a half length winner over seven furlongs at Leopardstown, she stepped up to a mile on her latest start and was once again ridden by Shane Foley. Soon settling behind the leader, she was pushed along to lead from the two pole and was ridden out to hold off a challenge by Kaftan close home. The winning distance was a short head, with another length back to the favourite Snapraeceps in third, with the first three drawing eight lengths clear.

Kate Harrington, assistant to winning trainer Jessica Harrington, commented after the race, “Morpho Blue is stretched by a mile but she's going in the right direction and we might look for a bit of black type now. She grew with confidence and really dug deep tonight but I would say seven is her best trip.”

The Barronstown Stud-bred filly runs in the colours of Mrs David Nagle and Mrs John Magnier and is closely related to two black-type horses by Danehill Dancer, while another sibling is the dam of Grade 1 performer America. Their dam, meanwhile, is a full-sister to Group 1 Fillies’ Mile second Maryinsky, herself the dam of the top-class Peeping Fawn and Group 1 winner Thewayyouare.
