Mega G1 win for Soldier Of Fortune

Mega Fortune (4g Soldier Of Fortune-Far Across, by Common Grounds) heads to Cheltenham as one of the leading contenders for the G1 Triumph Hurdle after winning the G1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday. The Soldier Of Fortune gelding put in a smart front-running performance under Davy Russell and eventually prevailed by three and and a half lengths. “We’ll go to the Triumph Hurdle now, that’s the plan,” said trainer Gordon Elliott.  “Cheltenham will suit him. He has actually proved he can go on a bit nicer ground and we know he stays - you have to stay to win a Triumph Hurdle. “We said we were going to make plenty of use of him today and make them work. Thankfully it worked out great.” Russell also feels conditions in the Triumph Hurdle will suit Chris Jones’ four-year-old perfectly. “He’s strengthening up into a nice horse,” added the jockey “The outside track in Cheltenham for the Triumph should suit and he should get a good strong end to end gallop there that he needs.”
