Mendelssohn’s Classical Cat Secures Second Win
Classical Cat (2c Mendelssohn x Conquest Strate Up, by Not Bourbon) registered a second victory Sunday evening in a Santa Anita Allowance Optional Claiming race.
Racing in third for much of the one-mile turf race, Classical Cat was asked for his best in the stretch and entered a battel with the leader in the final furlong. By the time he hit the line, he had a length on that rival with only the second and third place horses within 10 lengths of him at the end.
Racing for Michael House, the Philip D’Amato-trained juvenile now has two wins in third starts.
A Pippa’s Hurricane-bred runner, Classical Cat is out of the multiple stakes winning Conquest Strate Up, who herself is out of a half-sister to dual Horse of the Year Curlin.
Mendelssohn is the sire of 16 winners, putting him sixth among all freshmen with his group of runners including four stakes performers and a graded stakes winner.
