Classical Cat (Mendelssohn) Wins The Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita

Mendelssohn’s Classical Cat Wins Eddie Logan

Classical Cat (2c Mendelssohn x Conquest Strate Up, by Not Bourbon) registered his first stakes victory on Friday with a win in the Listed Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita.

Taking his record to three-from-four, the Mendelssohn son shadowed the leaders in the one-mile turf race. Umberto Rispoli moved him a few paths from the rail around the far turn and Classical Cat kicked into gear to go for the win. He had to go even wider in the stretch to grab the lead and got up to win by half a length close to the wire.

Classical Cat now has earnings of $146,300 and is one of two stakes winners and seven stakes performers by first crop sire Mendelssohn.

Trained by Philip D’Amato for Michael House, Classical Cat was bred by Pippa’s Hurricane out of stakes winner Conquest Strate Up. That mare’s dam is a half-sister to dual Horse of the Year and successful sire Curlin.

Conquest Strate Up had a colt from four-time Grade I winner Tiz The Law’s first crop this year.

Standing for $25,000 in 2022, his first crop is led by Grade II winner Delight with his seven stakes performers fourth best among all freshmen. His 25 winners overall is also fourth best in his generation.
