Mendelssohn At Stables

Midsummer Soiree Another Winner for Mendelssohn

It was a sixth winner of the year for Mendelssohn on Friday when Midsummer Soiree (3f Mendelssohn x Colour Party, by Invincible Spirit) won an Oaklawn Park maiden.

Making her third start, the Chris Hartman trainee raced just behind the leader for much of the six-furlong dirt race before getting serious going into the stretch. Midsummer Soiree caught the long-time leader with a sixteenth left to run before having to hold off another runner in the shadow of the wire.

Going off at even money, Midsummer Soiree won by three-quarters of a length for owner JD Thoroughbreds.

Bred by Greathouse Equine and Pioneer Ventures, Midsummer Soiree is the third winner from three runners out of the winning Colour Party. The family includes Group I Epsom Oaks winner Casual Look, Italian champion Fashion Statement, and stakes winner and Group I placed Shabby Chic.

Mendelssohn leads all second crop sires with six winners this year, including the stakes winning Opus Forty Two.
