Milan’s Latest Graded Success Is A Family Affair

Mossy Fen (5g Milan - Inch Native, by Supreme Leader) made a successful drop back in trip to take Saturday’s Grade 2 Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle for the Twiston-Davies family, who won the 2013 running with The New One.

The Aidan Byrne-bred bay was bought by trainer Nigel’s son Willy after winning his point-to-point for Donnchadh Doyle and went on to win his first two starts over hurdles for owners Carl Hinchy and Mark Scott. Fourth in a Grade 2 over three miles next time out at Cheltenham, he dropped back to two miles and five furlongs for the Warwick contest.

Sam Twiston-Davies asked his mount to challenge from two out and the bay obliged, staying on well to lead close home and won by three parts of a length. The winning jockey later revealed that there should be more to come from Mossy Fen, saying, “He's a pleasure to ride and has got a great attitude. He was still green today.”
