Mo Town Colt Lead Coolmore Trifecta at Kentucky Downs
It was a Coolmore-sired trifecta at Kentucky Downs on Wednesday when Mo Town’s Stashu (2c Mo Town x Macbu, by Maclean’s Music) beat Uncle Mo’s Hoff and Mendelssohn’s Captain Fancy to the line.
The 6 ½ furlong turf race for juveniles saw all three break out of outer gates but quickly take up positions close behind the leader. Coming into the stretch, Hoff was in front and looked like he’d be the one to beat with just over a furlong left to run.
Stashu went on the attack as they reached the final furlong pole and Hoff grudgingly gave in. Stashu pulled away from there to win by 2 ¾ lengths with Hoff a clear second from a late running Captain Fancy.
This was the third start for the John Wainwright-trained Stashu, who was also third at Ellis Park on debut. The colt races for Warchol Thoroughbreds and was bred by Troy West, Joe Griffith, and Colt Pike. He is the first foal out of the two-time winning mare Macbu.
There are stakes performers under each of Macbu’s first four dams with the mare a half-sister to the multiple stakes placed War Colors.
Stashu is the 15th juvenile winner of the year for Mo Town, putting him second among all North American stallions by number of juvenile winners this year.
