Munnings’ Sun Path Registers Another Impressive Victory

Juddmonte Farms homebred Sun Path (2f Munnings x Touch The Star, by Tapit) made easy work of a Fair Grounds Allowance on Friday to win by 12 ¾ lengths for her second straight victory.

Racing over a mile on the dirt, Grade II winner Bonny South’s little sister was a complete professional when shadowing the leader throughout much of the run while well in hand. Taking command as they entered the final three furlongs, Florent Geroux let the heavy race favorite coast home to a 12 ¾ length win for trainer Brad Cox.

It was the second win in three starts for the juvenile, who is one of three winners from three to race out of Touch the Star, including Sun Path’s Grade II winning, Grade I-placed full sister Bonny South.

Touch The Star is a half-sister to Grade I winner Etoile Montante, who is also the dam of Grade II winner Starformer. In all, there are 14 stakes horses under Sun Path’s first two dams with nine of those stakes winners. Among those under Sun Path’s third dam are European champion Special Duty and Grade I winners Kings Will Dream, Sightseek, Tate’s Creek, and Expert Eye.

Currently sitting fourth on the General Sires list, Munnings had a banner year in 2020 with six graded stakes winners and 12 stakes winners leading his 21 stakes performers this year alone. He is already booked full for 2021.
