Camille Pissarro (No Nay Never) Wins The Prix Jean Luc Lagardere

New G1 Winning 2YO For Wootton Bassett

Talented colt Camille Pissarro (2f Wootton Bassett x Entreat, Pivotal) emulated the feat of his sire Wootton Bassett when winning the Group I Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (1400m) at Longchamp on Sunday.

The second string entry in the race for Coolmore behind another Wootton Bassett colt Henri Matisse, the Aiden O’Brien trained Camille Pissarro was lining up for his seventh run this year with Christophe Soumillon on board.

On very testing ground, Camille Pissarro launched down the centre of the track from second last to score by a neck improving on his close last start second in the Weatherbys Scientific £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes at Doncaster.

“We have always thought the world of him, but he is a big horse, who we thought was a bit weak and was still growing,” Aidan O’Brien revealed.

“But he was coming out of his races very well, which is why he is here. In his last few races, we started to learn that he wanted to get there late.

“Christophe gave him a peach, and he said there is no doubt he will get a mile next year.”

Camille Pissarro was purchased by MV Magnier and White Birch Farm for 1.25million guineas at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 and was the highest priced yearling by his sire sold at that sale.

He is a half-brother to Group I winning sprinter Golden Horde and stakes-winners Exhort and Line of Departure being the eighth winner from nine foals to race from exceptional producer Entreat, a half-sister by Pivotal to Group II winner Producer.

Camille Pissarro is the 53rd stakes-winner and tenth Group I winner for Wootton Bassett who is back in Australia this spring at a fee of $192,500.
