O’Brien colt continues Mastercraftsman’s purple patch with G3 win
The Aidan O’Brien-trained Craftsman (2c Mastercraftsman-Weekend Fling, by Forest Wildcat) continued an unforgettable year for Mastercraftsman’s first crop when winning the G3 Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday.
An easy Listowel maiden winner in September, he looks another exciting 2014 three-year-old prospect for his sire after seeing off stablemate Michaelmas by a length in this seven-furlong contest to give rider Michael Hussey his biggest success.
“He got his own way. The boss told me to go to the front and make every post a winning one. He quickened up well and he kept going. I thought he might get tired in the final furlong but he kept at it well. He handled the ground well too. That's brilliant – that's my first Group winner,” Hussey told irishracing.com
A £185,000 yearling bred by Epona Bloodstock, Craftsman continued a great run for Mastercraftsman, who is represented in today’s G1 Racing Post Trophy by recent G3 Autumn Stakes winner Kingston Hill (2c Mastercraftsman-Audacieuse, by Rainbow Quest).
