Owner Continues Gleneagles Love Affair With Six-Figure Buy
Owner Jim Hay is hoping to continue his great success with the progeny of Gleneagles after securing a son of the in-form sire for 325,000gns.
Ed Sackville worked in tandem with Dermot Farrington on behalf of Hay to secure the colt from Whatton Manor Stud on the final day of the Tattersalls Book 2 Sale. “We decided early on that he was the one we wanted to buy,” Hay later explained. “We’ve had quite a few by Gleneagles, we think he’s a top- class stallion and we like buying his progeny. This colt is bred on the same Pivotal cross as Royal Scotsman.”
Royal Scotsman (Gleneagles) carried Mrs Fitri Hay’s colours to victory in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes before finishing a gallant second in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes and returned to finish third in the Group 1 2,000 Guineas. The three-year-old’s former stablemate Highland Chief (Gleneagles) provided the Hays with Grade 1 glory earlier this year in the Man O’War Stakes.
