Parenting Romps In Affirmed Stakes
It was another eye-catching victory for Parenting (3c Justify x Iadorakid, by Lemon Drop Kid) on Sunday when the colt romped to a win in the Listed Affirmed Stakes to give Justify the 1-2 finish in the race.
From the time the field broke from the gate in the 1 1/16 mile dirt race, it was all about Justify runners with Parenting and Scatify vying for the lead. Scatify had command for much of the early part of the race, but Parenting was biding his time as they went into the turn.
Midway around the bend, it turned into a one-horse race with Parenting easily in charge. When asked for slightly more at the top of the stretch, he responded to romp home by 7 ½ lengths with Scatify 1 ¼ lengths in front of the third placed runner.
Parenting is trained by Bob Baffert for Gandharvi and is now perfect in his first two starts.
Purchased last spring at OBS for $750,000 from the Paul Sharp consignment, the colt bred by Jason Hall and BCS Thoroughbreds is one of three winners out of Iadorakid.
A winner herself, the mare is a half-sister to Canadian champion El Tormenta and Grade III winner Zero Tolerance. This is also the family of Uncle Mo’s multiple stakes winner Galilean.
Parenting takes Justify to nine Northern Hemisphere-foaled stakes winners on the year, tying him for second with Curlin. His 25 stakes performers is also second best in the group.
