Practica Cat Newest G3 Winner for Practical Joke

Practical Joke is proving to be just as smart a sire in Chile as he is in the United States after Practica Cat (2f Practical Joke x Pattisunbridledcat, by Unbridled’s Song) became his second stakes winner from his first Southern Hemisphere crop with a win in the Group III Clasico Juan Cavieres Mella on Saturday.

Practica Cat broke from midfield and was happy to sit nearly last in the first half of the 6 ½ furlong dirt race, running a few path off the rail. Racing around the Hipodromo Chile turn, she advanced to be just a few lengths off the leader just waiting for the cue to go.

That cue came in the stretch and by the final furlong, she not only had the lead but pulled away to win by 6 ¼ lengths when geared down.

Prepared by Rodrigo Sanchez, it was the second win in two starts for the Haras Santa Sara homebred.

Her winning dam has produced six winners from seven to race with one of the filly’s half-sisters producing multiple Group I-placed Rienzzi. Practica Cat’s third dam is the four-time Grade I winner Dispute, who has 21 stakes performers under her name.

A leading first and second crop sire, Practical Joke is the sire of 46 worldwide winners with seven stakes winners and four graded stakes winners. In all, his first worldwide crop has yielded 10 stakes performers.
