Practical Joke Colt Tops Keeneland September Book 3

Practical Joke was the sire of the Book 3 topper at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale over the weekend when Monique Delk went to $900,000 to purchase the colt.

Consigned by Gainesway, the $900,000 colt is a half-brother to multiple Grade I placed Reinvestment Risk among two winners from four to race out of four-time winner Ridingwiththedevil. That mare is a half-siter to the stakes placed Fiera Nocturna and out of a half-sister to multiple Grade III winner My List and three other stakes performers.

Delk also purchased a Practical Joke colt from Lane’s End for $450,000 earlier in the session.

That colt is the second foal out of Quality Road mare New Hope Road, who was a winner herself. New Hope Road is a half-sister to the stakes placed duo of Sweet Success and Sweet Legacy with Sweet Success also producing stakes winner Gulf Coast. This is a top family in the stud book with Grade I winner Happy Saver under the colt’s third dam, that mare a daughter of the great mare Weekend Surprise.

Weekend Surprise produced Horse of the Year and top sire A.P. Indy and Grade I winner Summer Squall among others.

Through six sessions, Practical Joke has seen 32 of his yearlings sell for a gross of $7,250,000 and average of $226,563.
