Practical Joke Juvenile Leads Again at OBS June
Practical Joke’s juvenile sales season got even better on Wednesday at the OBS June 2-Year-Old Sale when the triple Grade I winner’s filly out of Devious d’Oro brought $425,000 to top the sale.
Purchased by Gary Young on behalf of Amr Zedan, the Top Line Sales-offered filly sold for $50,000 more than the second most expensive horse of the first session – a filly by Uncle Mo out of multiple stakes winner Brooklynsway.
“I thought her breeze was unbelievable,” Young told Thoroughbred Daily News. “She went in :10, :21, :33 and :45 1/5. The first part of the breeze was conducted with a pretty good tail wind, but the last the part of the breeze, when she started up the backstretch, there was a pretty strong headwind hitting her in the face. And she still went from :33 to :45 1/5 from the three-quarters pole to the five-eighths pole. And they needed a pony to pull her up.”
Out of stakes-placed Devious d’Oro, Practical Joke’s offering was bred by White Fox Farm.
Also the dam of three-time winner Earner from one to race, Devious d’Oro is a half-sister to Grade III winner Devious Intent and multiple stakes winner Pioneer Spirit with four of their dam’s six winners performing at stakes level and a fifth winning 14 starts. Also on this page is champion Mr. Tommy.
This filly is bred on the same Practical Joke x Medaglia d’Oro cross as Practical Joke’s impressive debut winner and TDN Rising Star Wit and similarly to Into Mischief’s multiple stakes winner Into Mystic.
Top Line Sales has proved to be successful with Practical Joke 2-year-olds this year with the consignment selling his sales topping filly at OBS March for $750,000 and a $500,000 filly at the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale.
Already the sire of two winners from his first crop, Practical Joke sees three more set to go through the ring in the next two sessions.
