Pride of Dubai Mares Race Up a Storm
Quality mare Sirileo Miss (5m Pride of Dubai x She’s Sirius, by Galileo) posted her second stakes win this season when taking out the Group III VRC Matron stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday, while at Rosehill Pride of Jenni (5m Pride of Dubai x Sancerre, by O’Reilly) ran the race of her life to finish a close second in the Group I ATC Coolmore Classic (1500m).
Ridden by Ben Melham for Symon Wilde, the daughter of Pride Of Dubai led from the front and was going strong to the line to defeat Excelida by three and three-quarter lengths.
With her third Group III success, Sirileo Miss advances her record to eight wins, three seconds, and three thirds from 23 starts with earnings of $735,800.
Racing manager Ben Casanelia noted Sirileo Miss has an exemplary second-up record.
“She’s four from six (second up) now,” Casanelia said.
“We were probably a little bit disappointed with her first-up (because) she’d trialled well and her work had been good.
“Today, gate one, and Ben rode her well.
“We were concerned about her record at Flemington, I think she was zip from six goes here, but today she’s done that easily.
“At the top of the straight, I knew she was travelling, and she does need to be ridden along a little bit, but there was plenty of horse there, and she was fantastic. All credit to her.”
A $60,000 purchase by Wilde Racing from the Miranda Park draft at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Sirileo Miss was bred by Miranda Park’s Gary O’Meara.
Sirileo Miss is a half-sister to stakes-placed Sophia's Choice and is the best of seven winners from terrific producer She’s Sirius.
Purchased by Miranda Park Bloodstock for $75,000 at the 2017 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale, She’s Sirius is a half-sister by Galileo to Listed VRC Ottawa Stakes winner Spectrolite.
She’s Sirius foaled a filly by King’s Legacy on August 28 last year.
