Progressive Gleneagles Colt Proves Superior
Royal Cape (3c Gleneagles - Kikonga, by Danehill Dancer) proved a class above his rivals in Monday’s Novice Stakes over a mile at Windsor.
The Hughie Morrison-trained colt shaped with promise on his sole two-year-old start and was narrowly denied on his three-year-old return last month. Sent off favourite on Tuesday, the bay chased the leader under Oisin Murphy and took over the lead before the three furlong marker. Pushed clear two furlongs from home, he needed little encouragement to win by ten lengths.
“This fella gave me a nice feel,” Oisin Murphy said after the race. “I don't know how much strength and depth there was in the race - Sir Michael Stoute's horse had a penalty - but hopefully he'll improve.”
Owned by PCJ Dalby and RD Schuster, Royal Cape becomes the third winner out of the useful mare Kikonga.
