Progressive Son Of Gleneagles Captures Manion Cup
Timour (5g Gleneagles - Rock My Soul, by Clodovil) will be targeted at the $2million Sydney Cup after coming out on top in a thrilling finish to the Group 3 Manion Cup at Rosehill.
The son of Gleneagles was Listed and Group-placed in his native France before joining Chris Waller’s stable and was last seen finishing third at Flemington. Stepping up to a mile and a half on Saturday, he was delivered late by Kerrin McEvoy and stayed on strongly to deny Raging Bull by a nose, with the same distance back to longtime leader Sir Lucan (Camelot) in third.
Speaking after the race, Chris Waller said, “He has gradually been making progress since he has been in Australia and I think the writing was on the wall at Flemington two starts back. He was really strong all the way to the line- strong enough to think he is a genuine Sydney Cup chance.”
“He enjoyed that there today,” McEvoy added. “He knuckled down well late and he will stay further as well. He is open to further improvement once he settles in here.”
Owned by a partnership including OTI Racing, the son of Gleneagles emulated his half-brother Young Rascal by winning the Manion Cup. The pair were bred by Ecurie Peregrine out of a half-sister to dual Stakes winner Rock My Love (Rock Of Gibraltar).
