Progressive Types Complete Double For Getaway

Downtown Getaway (8g Getaway - Shang A Lang, by Commander Collins) appeared to relish testing conditions at Ffos Las on Thursday, where he gained his first win over fences for Peter Bowen.

Sold after impressing in a bumper for breeders Mags Mullins and Peter Magnier, the son of Getaway won twice over hurdles for Nicky Henderson and made a promising start over fences on his first start for Bowen in October. Tackling heavy ground on Thursday, the bay raced towards the back of the field under James Bowen and improved to chase the leaders from four out. A clear leader at the final fence, he stayed on well to win by five lengths.

Routine Excellence (5g Getaway - Well Composed, by Bach) completed the first leg of a double on the day for Getaway when landing the maiden hurdle at Naas.

Sent off favourite under Keith Donoghue, Gavin Cromwell’s charge was travelling well at the second last and was shaken up to lead at the final flight. Pushed along on the run-in, he scored by four and a half lengths in comfortable fashion.

Owned by E Hughes and bred by Eoughan Loughlin, Routine Excellence made a winning start to his career in a four-year-old maiden at Tinahely for Colin Bowe.
