Promising Colt Gets Arizona Off The Mark
A step up in trip saw the promising Wizard Of Odds (2c Arizona – Starlight Symphony, by Oratorio) get off the mark in Friday’s seven furlong maiden at Down Royal.
The Charles O’Brien-trained colt finished fifth on debut at the Curragh and finished well next time at Listowel. Sent off second-favourite on Friday, he chased the leader under Shane Foley and led after the two furlong pole. He kept on well close home to deny the favourite by a length.
“I sat on him before he even ran and a fine, big horse,” said the winning rider. “He's probably gone a little shade weak now being honest, but I think he's a nice horse in time.”
Owned by Ross Barrett and bred by Brian Canning, Wizard Of Odds becomes the first winner out of his dam. He also provides high-class juvenile Arizona with his first success at stud.
