Salt Wind (Getaway) Wins The Maiden Hurdle At Fairyhouse

Promising Son Of Getaway Gets Off The Mark At Fairyhouse

The consistent Salt Wind (6g Getaway - Karen Mag, by Oscar) led home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore NH sires in the two and a half mile maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse on Saturday.

The winner of a five-year-old maiden at Bandon last year, the Michael Kennedy-trained bay finished second in both his bumpers and was placed on his first two starts over hurdles.

Sent off favourite under Paddy Kennedy, Karen O’Driscoll’s homebred chased the leaders and improved into the lead before two out. Pushed along approaching the final flight, he kept on well on the run-in to win by four and a half lengths, as Part Time Farmer (Westerner) and Edison Kent (Leading Light) finished second and third respectively.

“He's a nice horse and we've always thought plenty of him,” the winning trainer later revealed. “I'd say they were good horses that beat him in his bumpers. We'll look forward to going over fences with him.”
