Romantica claims G1 glory for Galileo

Galileo added another G1 winner to his long list of major successes on Sunday when Juddmonte blue-blood Romantica (4f Galileo-Banks Hill, by Danehill) captured the G1 Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville.

The daughter of G1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf winner Banks Hill was already a G2 winner but she looked better than ever as she came with a decisive late run to claim the prize for trainer Andre Fabre and jockey Maxime Guyon.

"The ground had dried out fairly nicely and she got a super stride," owner-breeder Prince Khalid Abdullah's racing manager, Lord Grimthorpe, told the Racing Post.

"They went a nice pace and she quickened well. She's a Galileo out of Banks Hill so you have fairly high expectations. Her mother won the Marois here so how good is it to win a Group 1 here?

"The obvious one for her would be the G1 Prix de l'Opera and the Breeders' Cup could be an option."
