Royal Luck Leads Home Lookin at Lucky Exacta in G2

Lookin At Lucky’s Royal Luck (2c Lookin at Lucky x Starrily, by Southern Halo) stayed undefeated on Friday in the Group II Claisco Criadores Machos in Chile when leading home the exacta for his sire.

Racing over a mile on the turf, Royal Luck split the field when settling in midpack as the they mostly raced in single file around the course. Rounding the turn, Royal Luck moved closer and took advantage of a large hole that had been left open to challenge the leader early in the stretch.

That horse had nothing left to fight off Royal Luck and he went right on by to win easily by 2 ¾ lengths. Lookin At Lucky’s Gamberetti gave hints that he too has a group stakes win in his future when distances get longer as he made a late surge near the wire to grab second.

Trained by Patricio Baeza for breeder Haras Matriarca, it was the second stakes win for Royal Luck after a Group III victory last out.

Royal Luck is out of a half-sister to Group II winner Star Quality, who is the dam of U.S. stakes-placed Herecomesbert and the granddam of stakes winner and Group I-placed Savorita. Royal Luck’s stakes winning granddam is also a half-sister to Group I winner Venuisino and Grade II winner Star Cross, in addition to Group I placed Star Halo.

This family also includes Group I winners Oferecido and Schoolmistress.

Royal Luck is the second group winner for his sire this week after Panfield won the Group I Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup last Sunday in Hong Kong.
