Marie's Diamond (Footstepsinthesand) winning the G3 Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh

Second Stakes Success For Footstepsinthesand Colt

Sunday saw Marie’s Diamond (3c Footstepsinthesand - Sindiyma, by Kalanisi) gain the second black-type win of his career when taking the Listed Pomfret Stakes at Pontefract.

The Mark Johnston-trained colt won a Group 3 and was placed in two Group 2 contests as a juvenile, and returned to winning ways in a conditions race last time out at Haydock. Stepping back up to a mile on Sunday, he made all under Silvestre De Sousa and was ridden from over two furlongs out. Driven out inside the final furlong, he dug deep to hold off Di Fede by three parts of a length.

Marie’s Diamond is owned by Middleham Park Racing and was bred by Tony Ashley. A half-brother to Listed winner and Group 1 Metropolitan third Sikandarabad, he comes from the Aga Khan family of Sinndar (Grand Lodge).
