Serious Group of Yearlings on Offer for Practical Joke at Fasig-Tipton

One of three Coolmore America freshmen debuting their first yearlings this sales season, three-time Grade I winner Practical Joke has 17 yearlings ready for action at this week’s Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearling Showcase.

Buyers won’t have to wait long to get their first chance at buying a Practical Joke yearling with Royal Bloodstock Sales sending out Hip 15 in the New York-Bred section to start Wednesday’s session.

The colt is out of Storm Cat mare Love Walked In, a full sister to Grade II winner Cat Chat, whose five winners include Grade I winning mare In Lingerie and the dam of Japanese Group II winner Red Bel Jour. Also among those stakes horses under this colt’s second dam are Grade II winner Mongolian Falcon and Grade III winner Rumor along with Grade I winner and sire Dixie Chatter.

Hip 146 in the New York-Bred section from the draft of Sequel New York is a half-sister to Fusaichi Pegasus’ stakes winner and Grade II-placed Fusaichi Red. A half-sister to two winners from two to race, the filly’s fourth dam is multiple champion Susan’s Girl, also the dam of three-time Grade I winner Copelan.

Hip 188, named Dontgetabovuraisin, is consigned by Eaton Sales. The March born filly is supported by three stakes winning siblings from nine winners with Listed winning half-sister Glacken’s Gal, also the dam of Live Lively. Glacken’s Gal is also the granddam of champion and four-time Grade I winner Mitole. The filly has stakes success throughout her page with her Listed placed dam Lady Diplomat a daughter of stakes winner Mercedes Miss, the dam of four stakes horses from eight winners.

Vinery Sales Hip 200 is the second foal out of Lemon Gala, a half-sister to three stakes horses. Out of stakes winning Galadriel, Lemon Gala is a half-sister to Grade II winner Concave and stakes winner Peisinoe, the dam of Grade III-placed Proverb. Another Lemon Gala half-sister produced stakes placed Boldly True with Galadriel herself a sibling to three other stakes horses, including multiple stakes winner El Brujo.

Hip 246 from Terrazas Thoroughbreds is the first foal out of a half-sister to Canadian champion Hollinger and stakes winner Rinaldi. Two of the colt’s dam’s half-siblings have produced stakes winners, including Munnings’ stakes winner Lake Sebago and 2019 stakes winner and Breeders’ Cup runner Deviant.

Gainesway sends out Hip 252, a half-brother to four stakes performers. The group includes stakes winner Shore Runner and Grade III-placed Save Rock and Roll with stakes winning dam Miss Mary Pat the dam of eight winners from eight runners overall. There are stakes winners under each of this colt’s first seven dams.

Hip 425, a Peter Blum-bred offering by Bridie Harrison, is already named Get Serious – the perfect name for her page. The filly is a half-sister to four stakes horses led by stakes winning Princess Arabella, who is already the dam of multiple graded stakes placed Ulele, and stakes winning Grade II placed mare Dyna’s Lassie. Their dam Tortuga Lady has produced 10 winners from 10 runners and herself is a full sister to Grade I Kentucky Derby runner-up Invisible Ink.

Warrendale Sales Hip 540 is the third foal from a Colonial John half-sister to Grade I winner and sire Yes It's True. The colt’s dam is also a half-sister to stakes winner Honest Deceiver, the granddam of stakes winning Holllywood Hills with two other half-siblings the dams of stakes placed runners. This family includes Grade I winners Silver Max and Girvin and top sprinter Shancelot.

Among the other Practical Joke offerings to keep an eye on are Hip 115 from Taylor Made Sales out of a half-sister to Grade II winning Halory Leigh; Hip 117 from Hunter Valley Farm, the New York-bred first foal out of a half-sister to dual Grade I winner Diversify; Hip 368 by Bridie Harrison from the family of dual Grade I winner Octave; Wynnstay Sales’ Hip 460 out of a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Isotherm; and Stuart Morris’s Hip 621 is a half-brother to a stakes winner.

The 2020 Fasig-Tipton Yearling Showcase starts at 10 a.m. on Wednesday with its second session on Thursday starting with Hip 331 at the same 10 a.m. start time.
