Short Summer Dress Another Stakes Winner for Munnings
It was another stakes winner for Munnings on Wednesday when his daughter Short Summer Dress (4f Munnings x Storm Star, by Candy Ride) took the field gate-to-wire in the IU Hoosier Stakes.
Racing five furlongs over the Indiana Grand turf, Short Summer Dress was first out of the gate and stayed in that position throughout. She faced a challenger in the stretch but dug in to register a three-quarter length victory.
It was the third straight victory for the Spiess Stable and Randy Klopp-owned filly, who is also trained by Kopp. In all, Short Summer Dress has won four of her 15 starts with three other top-three finishes for $124,510 in earnings.
The 4-year-old is a granddaughter of multiple stakes winner Stormy West, who has produced four winners from five to race including this runner’s dam. Out of Storm Beauty, Storm West is a half-sister to Grade III winner Buffum and two other stakes placers. The family also includes champions Gold Beauty, Dayjur, Sky Beauty, and more.
Munnings is having a banner year in and out of the shed. Booked full for 2021, he also ranks among the top five North American sires in multiple categories.
