Simply Joking Stays Unbeaten in Silverbulletday
Simply Joking (3f Practical Joke x Imply, by E Dubai) was impressive yet again in Saturday’s Silverbulletday Stakes, taking her record to two stakes wins in two career starts.
Stepping up to a mile after debuting over six furlongs, Simply Joking broke well and immediately went to the lead to control the race. Jockey Jaime Torres had to keep her restrained on the rail until they hit the backstretch and the filly settled better with a horse at her hip.
It was clear Torres had plenty of horse left around the turn, barely moving as the other jockeys were asking their mounts for everything they had. Simply Joking only felt the whip to keep her focused in the stretch to win by 2 ½ lengths.
Trained by Whit Beckman, Simply Joking races for Grantley Acres, Ryan Conner and Berkels0813 and now has victories in the Letellier Memorial Stakes and SIlverbulletday Stakes in two career starts.
Bred by Barlar, her dam is the multiple stakes winning Imply. That mare’s first runner was another stakes winner in Drum Roll Please. Imply is one of four stakes winners out of the stakes placed Allude, who also produced stakes winner and Grade II placed Drop a Hint.
This is the family of Horse of the Year Holy Bull and Grade I winner Sweet Symphony.
Practical Joke’s two stakes winners in 2025 is the best of all North American stallions with the stallion also tied with his sire in first place by number of graded stakes winners, graded stakes performers, and stakes performers.
