Uncle Mo Head Shot

Sixth Stakes-Winner for Uncle Mo

Red hot young sire Uncle Mo keeps churning out the winners with improving colt Mo Tom (2cUncle Mo x Caroni, by Rubiano) capturing the $81,750 Street Sense Stakes at Churchill Downs to become his sixth individual stakes-winner.

A winner on debut at Ellis Park for Tom Amoss, Mo Tom was subsequently transferred into the care of Chris Richard.

Third at his first run for his new trainer at Keeneland on October 8, Mo Tom stepped it up a notch to win this one mile contest by a length

“We’ve thought very highly of this horse, he just needed a little bit of seasoning and needed more distance,” said Chris Richard.

“It wasn’t really a surprise to see him go out and run as well as he did. So I give him a lot of credit, it’s more him than it is me, that’s for sure. We’ll discuss it with the owners but [the GII Kentucky Jockey Club S. Nov. 28] is a distinct possibility. The Uncle Mo babies are running all over the place and I don’t think you could ask for a better start for your freshman season. I think two turns is definitely within his capability. He’s got this big long cruising stride to him and I have always thought that the further he would go, the better he would get.”

A $150,000 Keeneland September purchase, Mo Tom is a half-brother to stakes-winners Beautician and Bella Castani from good producer Caroni.

Uncle Mo also produced a debut winner at Parx Racing with Name Changer (2c Uncle Mo x Cash’s Girl, by Northern Afleet) scoring by four and a quarter lengths over six furlongs.
