Smart Juvenile Winner By Starspangledbanner
Yankee Dude (2c Starspangledbanner – Split Decision, by Teofilo) shaped like a smart prospect when winning his second start at Lingfield on Saturday.
The Warren Greatrex-trained colt made a promising debut last month, when finishing third, and remained over seven furlongs on his second attempt. Positioned in midfield by Ed Greatrex, the bay was pushed along approaching the final furlong and kept on well to lead close home. He went on to beat the favourite by a length, with another length and a half back to the well-related third.
“Yankee Dude has a very nice pedigree and we've always liked him,” said the winning trainer. “He ran very well first time in a very good race at Yarmouth, and he'd stepped forward quite a bit. He's still quite raw and green but Ed was very taken with him and they were pretty sure the second was a black-type horse.”
Owned by Jim And Claire Limited, Yankee Dude was bred by Noralla Ltd, Empire Bloodstock and Mrs J Dwyer.
