Smart Newcomer Continues Fine Run For Footstepsinthesand

Master Of My Fate (2c Footstepsinthesand - The Works, by No Nay Never) produced a smart debut performance to run out an easy winner of Sunday’s five furlong Novice Stakes at Pontefract.

The 90,000gns breeze-up buy was sent off a short-priced favourite under Danny Tudhope, who rode John Quinn’s charge in touch for much of the way. Forced to wait for a clear run, the bay made smooth headway approaching the final furlong and led soon after. Drawing clear, he led by three lengths on the line.

“Master Of My Fate has been training well at home,” assistant trainer Sean Quinn later told Racing TV. “I'm very pleased with how he did it. You can only beat what's put in front of you, but we've always liked him and I was delighted to see him win.”

Owned by Ms Janelle Cao, Ross Marmon and partner, Master Of My Fate was sold by Johnston Stud at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-Up Sale to Sean Quinn and Ollie Pimlott. Bred by Michael Buggie and Liam Wright, the smart newcomer continues a fine run for Footstepsinthesand’s current crop of juveniles.

At Newmarket the previous day, a change of tactics saw Lincoln Legacy (2f Footstepsinthesand- Crystal Valkyrie, by Danehill) record her second success for Charlie Johnston.

A debut winner over six furlongs in May, the daughter of Footstepsinthesand was ridden more patiently by Franny Norton on Saturday and raced towards the back of the field for much of the seven furlong contest. Switching right approaching the two furlong pole, she made good headway to lead inside the final furlong and was ridden out to score by a length and a quarter.

Owned by GPS Heart Of Racing Ltd, the full-sister to Group 3 winner Sent From Heaven (Footstepsinthesand) was bred by COP Hanbury.
