Smart Second Crop Winner By Ten Sovereigns

The well-related Usdi Atohi (2f Ten Sovereigns – Eria, by Zoffany) provided Ten Sovereigns with a winner from his second crop when making a smart debut at Dundalk on Saturday.

The Donnacha O’Brien-trained bay is a full-sister to Listed-winning stablemate Asean (Ten Sovereigns) and was sent off second-favourite for the fillies’ maiden over five furlongs. Ridden to make all by Gavin Ryan, she showed signs of inexperience when challenged two furlongs from home. Ridden soon after, she kept on well to deny the favourite by a head.

“I was very happy with her,” the winning rider said. “There is a strong headwind up the straight but she showed a real good willing attitude. She's tough, hardy and a very fast filly.”

Bred by Whisperview Trading, Usdi Atohi was bought by Aidan O’Ryan as a yearling for €150,000 and is now owned by Barry Fowler. Ten Sovereigns’ second crop sold for up to 400,000gns at the yearling sales, following an impressive start which saw him lead the freshman sire table by black-type performers. His 12 Stakes horses included Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes winner Inquisitively, Group 3 Round Tower Stakes runner-up Mansa Musa and Group 2 performer Kalispera.
