Smart Zoffany Colt Makes Perfect Start

The Michael Dods-trained Northern Express (2c Zoffany - Hint Of A Tint, by Danehill Dancer) shaped like a smart prospect when making a winning debut at Beverley on Friday.

Racing over seven and a half furlongs, the bay was positioned towards the back of the field by Paul Mulrennan and was pushed along from over two furlongs out. Switched left to challenge approaching the final furlong, he ran on well to lead close home and scored by three parts of a length, with a further five lengths back to the third horse.

Mulrennan appeared impressed by the winner and later said, “Northern Express has a good pedigree and a great temperament. He's a big horse and I got a nice pitch and he finished the race off well. I think he'll make a nice three-year-old.”

Bred by Mrs Sue Ann Foley, Northern Express becomes the first winner out of Group performer Hint Of A Tint, whose yearling filly by Caravaggio sells at next month’s Goffs Orby Sale.
