Soldier Of Fortune Duo Draw Clear In Maiden Hurdle

The Mags Mullins-trained Mythical Hero (4g Soldier Of Fortune - Flamenco Lily, by Flemensfirth) led home a 1-2 for Soldier Of Fortune in Sunday’s maiden hurdle at Cork.

A promising third on debut in a bumper last season, the bay was making his first start over hurdles at the weekend and raced prominently throughout under Tommy Brett. Asserting approaching the penultimate flight, he was ridden out on the run-in to deny North Of Nashville (Soldier Of Fortune) by a neck. The pair finished 12 lengths clear of the third horse.

Mullins, who owns the winner with Mrs Mary Furlong, later commented, “He's tough and I like him. I had been delighted with his work at home.”

Mythical Hero becomes the first winner bred by E Ryan out of the unraced mare Flamenco Lily (Flemensfirth).
