Son Of Flemensfirth Back To Winning Ways In Grade 2 Chase

Castlegrace Paddy (9g Flemensfirth – Thunder Road, by Mtoto) led home a 1-2 for Coolmore NH sires in the Grade 2 Webster Cup Chase at Navan on Saturday.

Coming into the race with two black-type chase victories to his name, Pat Fahy’s charge was ridden to chase the leaders by Bryan Cooper. Jumping well throughout, he was travelling well when asserting at the final fence and was ridden out to win by two lengths and three quarters. Longtime leader Ornua (Mahler) claimed runners-up honours, as the front pair finished clear of the rest of the field.

Pat Fahy, who trains the winner for Steve Parkin’s Clipper Logistics, later said, “That was great. I'm delighted for Steve Parkin, who has stuck by me, and Joe Foley. We had said if we won this we might go to Aintree but we'll see. This was the main objective and we got it.”

The son of Flemensfirth began his career with Aidan Fitzgerald, for whom he finished a close second on debut at Largy point-to-point. The PJW Byrne-bred bay was subsequently sold for €75,000.
