Geneticist (Footstepsinthesand) Impresses At Limerick

Son Of Footstepsinthesand Breezes To Maiden Victory

The Michael O’Callaghan-trained Geneticist (3g Footstepsinthesand - Moon Club, by Red Clubs) followed up on a promising debut to land Saturday’s seven furlong maiden at Limerick.

Beaten just a neck over the same trip at Gowran earlier in the month, he was sent off a short-priced favourite under Leigh Roche, who rode him to make all. Travelling well turning for home, he was pushed out to extend his advantage from the two furlong pole and duly obliged, scoring by three and a half lengths.

Winning owner and trainer O'Callaghan commented after the race, "He is a lovely horse who we bought at the breeze-up sales last year. He is a forward-going horse and wasn't drilled for the first day and we were over the moon with him when he finished second to what looked a good horse. He looks an exciting sort of horse.”

Geneticist was bred by Canice Farrell out of an unraced half-sister to three black-type performers, most notably the multiple Stakes winner Moon Unit, from the family of champion racehorse Old Vic.
