Son Of Footstepsinthesand Flies High In Australian Group 2

I Am Superman (4c Footstepsinthesand - Fastnet Lady, by Fastnet Rock) produced a career-best performance to land the $200,000 Group 2 Shannon Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

The Irish import appears to have embraced life Down Under and was last seen making a winning start to his Spring campaign over seven furlongs at Caulfield. Kerrin McEvoy took the ride on Saturday, positioning the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained favourite to track the leader and led entering the final furlong. Running on well, the bay scored by a length and a quarter from Group 1 performer Riodini.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “Peter and Paul have had him for a bit longer now and he’s turned into an 'Australian horse'. I must say he’s developed into a lovely big horse. He’s a much better unit now than what he was when he got here, so he’s acclimatised well.” On future prospects, McEvoy added, “Two wins from two starts this prep; it’s onwards and upwards for this fella. There’s no reason why he can’t perform at a mile. Paul said he might be going to a Toorak - that would be a lovely race for him.”

I Am Superman’s valuable win will have delighted his former trainer Michael O’Callaghan, who still owns the entire with John Fleming. Bred by Michael Smith, the son of Footstepsinthesand earned a rating of 107 in his native Ireland, where he won three races and finished third in the Group 3 Desmond Stakes.
