Sorcier Du Roi (Getaway) Wins On Debut at Clairefontaine

Son Of Getaway Makes Winning Debut For Nicolle

The Francois Nicolle-trained Sorcier Du Roi (3g Getaway – Knock Down, by Oscar) created a fine impression when making a winning debut at Clairefontaine on Saturday.

The Mrs Patrick Papot-owned bay was one of ten to line up for the Prix de Pouilly, a hurdle contest run over an extended two miles. Tracked the leaders under Angelo Zuliani, he began to quicken from the third last and leapt into the lead at the penultimate flight. Ridden out in the straight, he held off a number of fast-finishing rivals to win by a head.

Bred by Amy Collins, Sorcier Du Roi was sourced by Agencie FIPS as a foal at Tattersalls Ireland, where they went to €35,000 to secure the son of Grange Stud sire Getaway. A half-brother to Listed-placed hurdler Hello Sweetie (Westerner), he is out of Grade 3 winner Knock Down (Oscar).
