Son Of Gleneagles Blows Them Away At Chantilly
Calandagan (2g Gleneagles - Calayana, by Sinndar) could hardly have been more impressive when skipping clear to win his second start at Chantilly on Tuesday.
The Francis-Henri Graffard-trained bay finished third on debut in August, and with the winner subsequently doubling up, was sent off favourite to build on that performance. Stepping up to nine and a half furlongs, he made all of the running under Stephane Pasquier and began to draw clear approaching the final furlong, going on to score by ten lengths.
Owned and bred by His Highness the Aga Khan, Calandagan completed the first leg of a juvenile double for Gleneagles, with Tiscommonknowledge (2f Gleneagles - Gilded Reflection, by Zoffany) later getting off the mark at the Curragh.
The Paudie Roche-trained filly appreciated the step up in trip last time out at Naas, where she finished second, and was well-supported to build on that effort on Tuesday. Settled in midfield by Wayne Hassett, she was pushed along approaching the two furlong marker and was ridden to lead inside the final furlong. Running on well, she went on to win by four lengths from Mo Ghille Mor (Zoffany), who finished three lengths clear of the third.
Bred by Mrs Noreen McManus, Tiscommonknowledge is a full-sister to fellow Curragh winner Common Practice (Gleneagles).
