Son Of Gleneagles Delivers On Debut
Gleneagle Bay (4g Gleneagles – Charlotte Rua, by Redback) made a perfect start to his career when justifying favouritism in Tuesday’s mile maiden at Dundalk.
A promising second in a barrier trial last year, Joseph O’Brien’s charge faced 12 rivals on Tuesday and raced in touch for much of the way under Dylan Browne McMonagle. Improving to lead approaching the final furlong, he was ridden when challenged and kept on to prevail by half a length. The front pair rallied four and three quarter lengths clear of the third.
“He's a lovely big horse,” the winning rider later commented. “I think if I had something to take me further, he would have been even more impressive. He was rolling around a little bit in the last furlong, so there should be plenty of improvement.”
Joseph O’Brien’s 155,000gns yearling buy is owned by Rectory Road Holdings. The son of Gleneagles was bred by Rossenarra Bloodstock.
