Son Of Mahler Bounces Back In Charlie Hall Chase
Saturday saw Grade 1 winner The Real Whacker (8g Mahler – Credit Box, by Witness Box) return to winning ways in the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby.
Patrick Neville’s stable star raced prominently throughout the three mile test and was ridden from the third last. Jumping well in the straight, he kept on well under Brian Hughes to win by three and a half lengths, as the favourite and 2022 winner Bravemansgame finished second.
“I'm delighted to get him back,” said the winning trainer. The ground is the key to him. He won't go for the Betfair Chase, he'll maybe go for the King George and then the Cotswold Chase, then hopefully the Gold Cup”
“This is absolutely massive,” Brian Hughes added. “He did it really well, he’s a good horse.”
It marked a third Graded victory over fences for The Real Whacker, who is owned by his trainer with Mann, Duffus and Dennis-Price. The son of Mahler is the best performer bred by Mrs B Keane out of the mare Credit Box.
