Son Of Soldier Of Fortune Follows Up With Ease

The Donald McCain-trained General Officer (5g Soldier Of Fortune - Oscar’swan, by Oscar) recorded back-to-back wins in fine style at Musselburgh on Monday.

Third in a bumper on rules debut, he ran out an impressive 18 length winner on his hurdle bow last month and was sent off favourite to follow up over course and distance. Making all once again under Brian Hughes, he was shaken up from three out and picked up the pace from the second last. Clear at the final flight, he kept on well to win by three lengths and three quarters, with another 12 lengths back to the third.

General Officer is owned by J Fyffe, having joined McCain’s yard after winning a Tinahely maiden for Colin Bowe. The Soldier Of Fortune gelding is the first foal bred by James Slattery out of the Oscar mare Oscar’swan.
